Amber Scherer is a Chicago native and currently studies at Oberlin College and Conservatory, pursuing degrees in Piano Performance under Alvin Chow, and psychology. Amber is a veteran of numerous competitions, receiving awards from the Music Teacher’s National Association and DuBois International Piano Competition. She has appeared as soloist with the Oistrach, Harper, and Northeastern orchestras, as well as the Oberlin Conducting orchestra. Additionally, she is a scholarship recipient of the Chopin Foundation of the United States, Chicago’s League of Women Musicians, and the XARTs Fund for interdisciplinary art. Amber is dedicated to championing new and underrepresented composers. Her live recording of Liam Kaplan’s “Eight Preludes for Solo Piano,” which was written and dedicated for her, won the 2019 National BMI Student Composer Award. As an intersection of her two interests, Amber will be working this summer as a local organizer and performer for Project: Music Heals Us, which connects institutions in need with free live-streamed performances.
