Alena Lu, 17, has been studying piano with Elena Arseniev for 12 years. She has been a finalist and prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the 2020 David Dubois Piano Competition, Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition (2016 and 2018), the 2017 Ithaca College School of Music Piano Competition, the 2020 Ylda Novik Memorial Concerto Competition and the 2019 Swarthout Hayes Scholarship Competition. Alena is also the recipient of the George Manos Piano Prize in the 2019 FMMC Piano Competition and was a 2018 MTNA National finalist, winning third prize in the Senior Duet category with her partner. She has performed with the Potomac Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Strathmore Music Center, has been invited to perform at the Embassy of Hungary in Washington D.C., and the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival. Alena also attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) Young Artists Piano Program in 2019, as well as the Ithaca College Summer Piano Institute in 2017.
